A high-level inquiry committee appointed by Jawaharlal Nehru University to probe into the anti-national protests in the university campus recommended the debarring of eight students, including arrested Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar.
According to media reports, the three-member committee, which submitted its report on Friday, found that prima facie the students, whose debarring has been recommended, engaged in 'objectionable sloganeering' during a protest held in the varsity campus on February 9. The evidence, which the committee collected, is based on the video footage of the agitation.
Besides Kumar, general secretary of the union Rama Naga, Sayed Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Ashutosh Kumar, Ananth Prakash Narayan, Aishwarya Adhikari and Shweta Raj are the others who the panel recommended to be debarred.
Registrar of the university Bupinder Zutshi claimed that there was no police presence in the campus even as the students and teachers claimed otherwise. He claimed that the varsity was contacted by the police to question a few students who were at the forefront of the agitation.
Meanwhile, Jaishankar Singh, father of Kanhaiya Kumar said his son is being 'victimised' for opposing Hindutva politics. Claiming that his son has done nothing wrong, Singh said his son is not anti-national.
