The Attorney General of India has informed the Supreme Court that Congress Chief Minister Harish Rawat has won the crucial trust vote in the Uttarakhand Assembly.
The apex court was told that Rawat won 33 votes, proving the required majority.
Following the declaration, the Centre told the SC that it will revoke the President's rule.
Rawat will be reinstated as the chief minister of the state with immediate effect.
The video recording of the 90-minute proceedings of the Assembly, which took place on Tuesday, was presented in the Supreme Court in a sealed envelope.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi had hailed the victory of the Congress as "victory for democracy".
Reacting to the announcement, the BJP said this is not a setback for the Modi government at the Centre.
