Bhumata Brigade chief Trupti Desai, who led a successful campaign for women's entry into the Shani Shingapur temple in Maharashtra, entered the Haji Ali dargah in Mumbai on Thursday morning.

The activist, who has been fighting for the cause of gender equality in religion, entered the place of worship amid tight security, according to media reports.

Thanking the cops for cooperating with her, she said this was a fight for gender equality, and added that she and other women activists will enter the inner sanctrum of the dargah next time. She was denied entry into the dargah earlier.

"At the Dargah, I prayed that women be allowed to enter the inner sanctum, as was the case till 2011," she said.

Desai was on April 28 stopped by protestors when she attempted to enter the place of worship.
