BJP targetted Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi following media reports that the chief minister briefed Gandhi about the recent breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security in the state.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, on Sunday, sought to know what constitutional post Gandhi holds for a chief minister to brief her about the incident.

"A sitting CM briefs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on PM’s security! Why? What constitutional post does Priyanka hold, and who is she to be kept in loop regarding PM’s security? We firmly believe that the Gandhi family should come out clean on this," news agency ANI quoted Patra as saying.

Channi had said: "There was no threat to the PM. He was completely safe. No one went near him... I had a conversation with Priyanka Gandhi ji and I had briefed her on whatever happened here."

"Just curious to know who is Priyanka Vadra," tweeted BJP leader C.T Ravi.

"Sonia Gandhi's chief minister did not respond to PM Modi but briefs some Priyanka Vadra," he wrote.

In a "major security lapse", Modi's convoy was stranded on a flyover due to a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur, on Wednesday, after which he returned from poll-bound Punjab without attending any event, including a scheduled rally.
