Delhi Chief Minister Arvid Kejriwal condemned the brutal rape of a 13-year-old girl inside her home in the city, saying he would ensure that the attacker got the toughest punishment.

The girl was allegedly raped by an unidentified man, who also hit her face and head with a sharp object at her home in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar area on August 4.

“It has shaken me to the core. Such predators roaming free cannot be tolerated,” the CM tweeted.

Kejriwal made a visit to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where the girl has been admitted to. "The girl is in a serious state and is unconscious. A surgery has been done. She will be under observation for 24-48 hours," he said.

The chief minister said he would get the best lawyer on the case and would ensure the culprit got maximum punishment.

Police said they received information about the incident on Tuesday evening. The neighbours saw the girl lying in a pool of blood and informed the police and her parents.

The victim was first taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. After preliminary treatment, she was shifted to AIIMS for further treatment.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the parents of the girl were at their workplace and the victim was alone in the house when the incident took place, police said.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has also issued a notice to the police in connection with the incident and has sought a detailed action taken report in the matter by August 8.
