Rape accused dragged out of police station, beaten to death in Arunachal

In a shocking incident of mob violence, two rape and murder accused were lynched by an irate mob in Arunachal Pradesh's Lohit district.

This is the second incident of mob handing out justice to rape accused in northeast in last three years. A similar incident was reported from Dimapur of Nagaland in 2015, when a mob dragged a rape accused out of prison and murdered him.

According to media reports, the two accused, who raped a minor girl, were dragged out of police station and beaten to death. The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Sobor and Jagdish Lohar.

According to police sources, a mob of nearly 1,000 people were part of the attack on police station and the lynching that followed. A few policemen sustained injuries in the attack. The mob attacked the police station after the cops refused to hand over the accused to the crowd.

Sobor and Lohar, who were migrant labourers, abducted the girl on on February 12. Her body was recovered five days later. According to media reports, the accused, confessed to the crime.

A probe has been ordered into the incident.
