Gujarat Patidar leader Hardik Patel on Friday compared West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to Mahatma Gandhi.

Patel had come to Kolkata to attend a debate and had met Banerjee at her office in Howrah.

He said after the meeting, “I have not seen Mahatma Gandhi. But today, I have seen lady Gandhi. She is very simple, similar to Mahatma Gandhi.”

Patel also received an invitation from Banerjee to join the Trinamool Congress.

However, he said that he would not like to join any political party as of now.

The young Gujarat activist said he would come to West Bengal in 2019.

“I will campaign for Mamata didi in 2019. I will come here,” he said.

The meeting took place for an hour and both discussed the political situation in Gujarat and India. Patel also invited Banerjee to come to Gujarat; he said Banerjee had accepted the invitation.

Banerjee had previously called up Patel after the BJP’s relatively lacklustre performance in the Assembly elections in Gujarat.

“I am very happy to meet such a young, dynamic leader. He has invited me and I would go to Gujarat,” Banerjee said after the meeting.
