TED Talks India: Nayi Soch, to be aired on Star Plus, will be hosted by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan

TED Talks is all set to make a debut on Indian television as TED Talks India: Nayi Soch, which translates to 'new thinking'. Star India, a unit of 21st Century Fox, in partnership with TED, will produce and broadcast the first global Hindi TV talk show. TED Talks India will be hosted by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

Khan reportedly said that he connects with the show as a concept. According a TED blogspot, he said: “I believe that media is perhaps the single most powerful vehicle to inspire change. I am looking forward to working with TED and Star India, and truly hope that together, we are able to inspire young minds across India and the world.”

“This is the first time TED is collaborating with a major network to produce a TV series featuring original TED Talks in a language other than English—Hindi,” said TED, on their website. The format will remain same for the Hindi version of the show. In TED's signature style, 18 minutes or less, expert speakers will share big ideas through powerful presentations.

An initiative by non-profit organisation TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design), the talks began as a conference to discuss technology, entertainment and design, in 1984. Today, the inspirational and powerful TED Talks by speakers go beyond the realms of its name and cover a wide range of topics, including science, business and global issues, among others.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be bringing TED to India in this form,” said TED curator Chris Anderson, in the blogpost. “The country is teeming with imagination and innovation, and we believe this series will tap into that spirit and bring insight and inspiration to many new minds.”

This is not Star India's first attempt at driving a social change through television. In 2012, the network launched Satyamev Jayate, a talk show featuring debates and discussions on India-centric social issues. The much appreciated and successful show, hosted by Bollywood star Aamir Khan, Satyamev Jayate was aired from 2012 to 2014 as three seasons.
