Stretch it out with biriyani yoga; comedian's video goes viral

Early this year, a new yoga trend became the talk of the town—beer yoga with asanas that involved balancing beer bottles. While debates sparked on whether drinking took the sheen off the spirituality of yoga, beer lovers seemed to like the combination. And if you thought beer yoga was weird, then came the news about goat yoga. Lainey Morse of Albany, Oregon, gives yoga classes in her farm where goats roam around. As you stretch for the asanas, goats might cuddle up next to you, or even climb on top.

As yoga takes on weirder versions, Bengaluru-based standup comedian Sanjay Manaktala's version will leave you in splits. Move beyond beer and goats; Manaktala in his latest video introduces you to the spiritual benefits of biriyani yoga.

The video, a spoof-of-sorts on beer yoga, shows yogis gracefully trying out asanas and plank poses, all while balancing a plate of biriyani on their backs or tummy. “The thing is that biriyani is really spiritual. It is all about taking in the aroma and letting it out, letting it soak into your body. But also about the discipline of not jumping immediately into the biriyani,” says one of the actors in the video. Witty dialogues and facial expressions of the actors nail it in. Not to miss the Shavasana at the end.

The video posted on Facebook last week has gone viral with over 2 million views and 16,000 shares.
