Showcasing north east on the canvas

An exhibition of art titled ‘The Sacred Grove: North East’ kick-started across four gallery spaces in the Lalit Kala Galleries complex at Rabindra Bhavan, Ferozshah Road, New Delhi. The show showcasing 60 paintings will be open to public till November 29, 2016.

The exhibition evokes a rich array of artistry which is authentic, site specific and highly evocative in their appeal. They have been sourced from the Lalit Kala Akademi Art Collection and comprise region-specific works from the north east of India, executed at various art camps organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi across a period of five years.

The artworks unveil the beauty and pageantry of the north east region not as mere photographic images but as soul stirring experiences that artists have interpreted thereafter, in their artistic narrative. While the works are recognisable and connect with the region’s culture, its people, the unique lifestyle, its flora and fauna, and the day-to-day living in this forested paradise, at a more invasive level, the canvases on display contain impressionable strengths garnered from a first-hand account of the sights and sounds of this region.

The canvases also display a variety of artistic styles as their artist makers were drawn from different regions and thus have managed to infuse each of their works with their technical skills besides infusing them with their own sensitivities. On view are distinct artistic techniques, innovative concepts, unique forms and an abundance of colour, giving a signature feel of celebration while at the same time acquainting the viewer with the lifestyle of the region.
