Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Papon to judge Sennheiser Top 50

sennheiser-top-50 The latest edition of Sennheiser Top 50 will have Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Papon and Raghu Dixit as judges.

Strengthening its commitment of building a platform for independent music in India, Sennheiser, one of the world's leading manufacturers of headphones, microphones and wireless transmission systems, has come up with the third edition of Sennheiser Top 50 – a competition where music bands battle it out to win the title of the best Indian band.

This year, the contest will be judged by Bollywood's top music artists – music composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, singer and songwriter Raghu Dixit and singer Papon.

This edition will also see ground battles held in four zones. In the north zone, battles will take place in Delhi; in south, it will be in Bangalore; Shillong will be the place for east zone participants, and Pune will witness west zone competitors fighting for the title.

The grand finale will be held in Mumbai where the top four bands (winners of their respective zonal finals) will battle it out to win the trophy.

The winner will also get a two-year endorsement contract with Sennheiser. It will give them the opportunity to be the face of Sennheiser, have access to the brand's gear and win Rs 20 lakh as prize money.

“The overwhelming response we got in the last two editions encouraged us to come back and help in bands getting recognition across various genres,” says Vipin Pungalia, Director, Sennheiser Professional Segment India. “There is great talent in the country and we want to offer them the right platform to showcase it. We are very excited to bring the best jury on board and believe it will see some great talent during this journey. We are also hoping to get a good response from different zones,”

There is enormous talent everywhere, but not enough platform to showcase it. That is why we have started zonal finales along with the grand finale this year, he adds.

The last two editions of Sennheiser Top 50 saw over 2,000 musicians from 75 cities across all genres – pop, rock, fusion, classic, metal, jazz and blues – participating in the contest.

“It is a great initiative and provides a platform to budding musicians to showcase their talent,” say Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.

“Music is an integral part of the fabric of India and the north east is no exception,” says Papon. “Assam, where I was born and a place I proudly call home, has lots of talented musicians and bands waiting for the right platform to help them turn their dreams into reality. And I really hope that the talent of north east gets recognised and we have a winner from my region.”
