Mumbai police on Friday rejected reports that the security cover of Bollywood superstars Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan has been scaled down.

"There is no downscaling of existing personal security provided to film personalities," Mumbai Police said on their official Twitter handle.

There were media reports that the police downgraded security cover for both Shah Rukh and Aamir and scrapped it for some others following an audit on threat perceptions.

According to reports, Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan will now be entitled to two armed constables in two shifts, reduced from the earlier round-the-clock security by four armed constables and an escort vehicle.

They said police totally withdrew security to around 40 celebrities including director Rajkumar Hirani, Farah Khan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Ali Morani and Karim Morani.

The reports had triggered an outrage as they came close on the heels of controversies over the actors' comments on 'intolerance' in the country.

While Shah Rukh had said there was growing intolerance in the country, Aamir had shared his wife's fear that they might have to leave the country due to the intolerance.
