While filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar’s Sanam Re minted Rs 5.04 crore on Friday, the fellow valentine weekend release, Fitoor, collected Rs 3.61 crore
Despite the absence of big names, Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam starrer Sanam Re has beaten Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif starrer Fitoor at the box office on their opening day.
While filmmaker Divya Khosla Kumar’s love story minted Rs 5.04 crore on Friday, the fellow valentine weekend release, Fitoor, an adaptation of British writer Charles Dickens's novel Great Expectations, collected Rs 3.61 crore, reports said.
Made on a budget of Rs 20.50 crore, Sanam Re—Divya's second directorial venture after 2014 film Yaariyan—has already recovered Rs 16 crore from music, satellite and overseas distribution.
Produced by T-Series, Sanam Re is expected to see a good growth over the weekend, especially on the Valentine's Day on Sunday. The film also stars veteran actor Rishi Kapoor and Urvashi Rautela.
Although behind Sanam Re and opened to mixed reviews, Abhishek Kapoor's Fitoor, which is made on a production cost of Rs 40 crore, has already recovered close to 25 per cent of its cost.
It will have to perform well on the weekend, says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
“#Fitoor will need huge numbers/jump on Saturday and Sunday to post a decent weekend total. India biz,” Adarsh posted on Twitter.
