Gujarat became the third state after Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to ban Padmavat, even after all mandated changes were made in the film. Rajputs have been protesting against what they term as "distortion of historical facts".
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Friday that, as per his earlier orders, the movie won't be released in Gujarat. The announcement came hours after Karni Sena issued threats against its release.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranvir Singh. Karni Sena president Lokendra Singh asked the Rajput community to have "janata curfew” in all cinema halls. Meanwhile, on Friday, Gujarat witnessed protests against the movie in various districts.
