Outpacing Bollywood heavyweights like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, Kollywood superstar Suriya Sivakumar bagged the 'Golden Tweet of 2017'. According to a recent report released by Twitter, the golden tweet or the most re-tweeted tweet in India was the one in which Suriya unveiled the second look of his upcoming movie Thaana Serndha Kootam. The tweet put on on July 23 has so far received 113, 182 likes and retweeted 70,794 times. Thaana Serndha Kootam, directed by Vignesh ShivN and produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja, also features Karthik and Keerthy Suresh in the cast. The movie is scheduled for a grand release next year.
Suriya bagged the title amid high competition from Bollywood counterparts and promotion tweets of major releases like Shah Rukh's Jab Harry Met Sejal and Raees, Salman's Tubelight and Tiger Zinda Hai or Akshay Kumar's Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Not to forget the overdose of Padmavati on social media.

When it comes to Twitter trends, Kollywood seems to have had an upper hand this year. Vijay-starrer Mersal which kicked up a controversy recently for references to GST, became the top hashtag trend of 2017. Hashtag Mersal crossed over 1.7 million tweets in three days.
