COLLATERAL DAMAGE

No comrades, Tom Moody is not a Sanghi

Yes, we know. An average Malayali on social media is passionate (translation: just about as stable as a ton of RDX). Case in point: Check the Facebook account of Maria Sharapova, as trollers from Kerala raided her account when she said she was not aware of who Sachin Tendulkar was.

But they vastly overstepped their bounds on Sunday as they mistook former Australian cricketer and Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody for Moody's agency, Times of India city edition reported, quoting some comments like "We communist party (CPM) understand you take commission from Modi and give good report. Shame, shame Moody".

However, later posts made by Tom Moody were, somewhat ironically, flooded with comments of Facebook users from Kerala, imploring Moody to understand that it was not the communist party, but the RSS who were behind those derogatory posts. "They changed their profile pictures to defame the CPI(M)," users posted.

After the trolling intensified, Tom Moody himself had filed a clarification.

Earlier, Moody’s Investors Services lifted India’s local and foreign currency debt ratings, saying continued progress on economic and institutional reform will enhance India’s high growth potential.

Moody’s said it was lifting India’s rating to Baa2 from Baa3 and changed its rating outlook to stable from positive, saying that at the Baa2 level risks to India’s credit profile were broadly balanced.

Indian markets are poised for a big rally on Friday following Moody’s unexpected rating upgrade, traders said.

Moody’s said the recently-introduced goods and services tax (GST), a landmark reform that turned India’s 29 states into a single customs union for the first time, will boost productivity by removing barriers to interstate trade.

“In the meantime, while India’s high debt burden remains a constraint on the country’s credit profile, Moody’s believes that the reforms put in place have reduced the risk of a sharp increase in debt, even in potential downside scenarios,” the ratings agency said in a statement.
