The late Shiv Sena strongman Bal Thackeray is a hard man to essay. One of the few Bollywood films that—by popular belief—attempted it was the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Sarkar.

However, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut is attempting a biopic of the politician, and the first images show actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui pulling off a stunning resemblance of Bal Thackeray.

“Balasaheb has done so much for the Maharashtrians and the country, we should be grateful. He has given so much to the sons of the soil, to our state… to our country. The film aims to be fitting tribute, and is a great biopic to suit his stature, the way he lived. The film will be shot in Marathi and Hindi, and will be dubbed into English and various other languages worldwide,” says Raut.

It will be directed by Abhijit Panse; a team of dedicated national and international award-winning technicians will craft this film.

“The fight against injustice against our people, our state, and the sons of our soil mirrors the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak and Nelson Mandela. Balasaheb’s life was so dramatic that he ignited a passion for justice, for generations to come. He rewrote history of the city, the state and the nation, with his brush strokes,” sums up Raut.
