Mentalist Mohit Rao celebrates Mother’s Day with women of Kamathipura

Throwing a surprise party for your mother, taking her out for lunch or buying her a gift to celebrate Mother’s Day is a sure shot way to bring a smile on her face. But recently, what well-known mind reader and mentalist Mohit Rao did, left his mother not just happy but also extremely proud.

Mohit celebrated the occasion with the women of Kamathipura, Mumbai’s oldest red-light area, by organising an interactive half-an-hour mind reading session. “The idea was to honor the mothers of Kamathipura and pay respect to their courage,” says the mentalist, who has performed across India and abroad. “It’s amazing how effortlessly working mothers’ play the dual role of bread winners and caretakers of their children,” he adds.

Organised in association with Prerna, an anti-trafficking organisation, the session held for the mothers of Kamathipura included three stunning acts. First one was body language analysis, which revealed what a person was thinking just by reading his body language. The act was followed by the Broken Glass Walk act, wherein Mohit walked barefoot on broken glass and to add to the excitement he even lay down on it. After lying down on broken glass he also made two people stand on him. The last act was The Guns and Blindfolds act, which left everyone stunned. It saw the artist using his power of intuition to find out an unloaded gun amongst five loaded guns and then pulling its trigger on himself.

“The sessions I conducted were light hearted and entertaining. The acts engaged the audience and brought a smile to their faces, which was the sole motive. Besides, the endeavour gave me an insight into the lives of these women,” says Mohit.

“These women have been wronged in ways by their loved ones and also by the society at large. The life of these women is often restricted to the red-light areas. This Mother’s Day we wanted to provide them with an experience that brings a smile to their face, leaving their worries for a while. We are glad we could make it happen,” says the spokesperson of Prerna.
