Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi, who has handed the audience enough adrenalin rush with his punch political dialogues in a number of films, was sworn in as a member of Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Wishes poured in from the film fraternity with several senior actors dialing Gopi and congratulating him on his new role. Though Gopi wanted the presence of Mohanlal and Mammooty during the ceremony, the superstars couldn't make it due to pre-occupied programmes.
Only the actor's family and a few friends were present in the gallery of the upper house to witness the event.
Mammooty has a piece of advice for Gopi. He told the new MP that a member of parliament has a lot of limitations and that he should not make tall promises soon after swearing in. However, in his reply, Gopi said he has already got Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support to several projects including cleaning of rivers, welfare of Adivasis in Attappadi and forest conservation. He also reminded Mammooty that the nominated MPs also have an annual fund of Rs 2 crore.
Mohanlal, who is on a foreign tour, said he is so happy that he feels like he got the MP status. Senior actor and Lok Sabha member Innocent also extended wishes and reminded Gopi that though they are in separate parties and houses, it should not affect their closeness.
Actors Jayaram, Parvathi, Dileep and Kavya Madhavan also extended greetings to the new MP. An ecstatic Gopi said he is more happy because he will now be able to hear the speeches of Modi and other union ministers in Parliament.
