Kiku Sharda arrested for mimicking Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Comedian Kiku Sharda has been sent to 14 days judicial custody for "hurting religious sentiments". The actor had mimicked Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on the December 27, 2015 episode of Comedy Nights with Kapil Sharma'.

The actor is best known for his portrayal of 'Palak' on the show. The actor has been booked under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for outraging religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious belief.

The followers of the Ram Rahim Singh filed a police case against the actor after the episode aired. Following comedian Kiku Sharda’s arrest for mimicking Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief said that they were hurt by the show as the latter was ‘God’ for them.

“We were hurt because our Guru ji is God for us. There is anger in the whole country against this incident,” he added.

Kiku, on the very next day of the episode, wrote an apology on his twitter handle saying ,"Doston the act on TV was not to hurt anyone's feelings. My apologies to @Gurmeetramrahim ji and his followers. Let's spread happiness."
