While the picture of the goddess is a common one, usually seen on religious posters and calenders, many Indians slammed the singer, calling the post disrespectful.

"Nvr try to insult our religion... Kety," said an Instagram user @rajsunilgupta. "She has disrespected our gods by simply comparing them with her mood........if u can't respect ur religion let us respect our," said another user @rohan.hn4.

In the tsunami of comments, Perry has been at the receiving end of many abusive comments as well. Although the singer did not react to the controversy around her post, some Indians did stand up for her.

"Oh bhai kyu pgl hora hh usne sirf current mood he to post kiya h koi mzak to ni kiya (Brother, why are you getting mad (at the post), she only said 'current mood'. She did not make fun (of the goddess)," said another user iammukul007 to @pankaj1297, who has earlier said: “if she dont knw thn she had no right to post this.”

“Where in this post ..she has insulted or hurt any sentiments and culture of India ??? In fact this post is pure and a true feeling she might be feeling that particular moment .. appreciate her instead of getting offended .. don't insult yourself please,” said @rahulvermaaaa, in a comment.
