Falling in love has been a life-changing experience for Aisharjya Paramita Konwar, in many ways.

The smileys that Vibhuti Bhushan, her fiance who she married six months ago, sent her would leave her in a trance.

It was from one of those smileys that Konwar drew inspiration for her National Award winning work that depicts a nuptial bed with lips strewn all over it. The lips look beautiful, like petals or a bunch of fallen leaves.

''It is pure fantasy,'' smiled Konwar, 31, who is from Dibrugarh in Assam. '' It is a simple work. I hope anyone who has been in love could relate to it,'' she said as we met at the National Art Conclave organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi, India's National Academy of Art, at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bengaluru.

Konwar won the prestigious National Academy Award in the installation category. This year, the academy received 6,000 entries from artists all over the country, of which 15 have been conferred the award.

Select works of art, including the award winning ones, were showcased at the 58th National Exhibition of Art held at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru. The exhibition, which highlighted the role of art in contemporary times, was on till March 19.

The Art Conclave offered a platform for the artists and the jury members to exchanges their views on art and art practices.
