Director Ram Gopal Varma has an uncanny knack for saying things that beg to be taken out of context. When Actor Amy Jackson had tweeted a picture of herself with Rajinikanth earlier, saying, “I don't think I've ever looked so happy on a photograph. Rajiniji, I feel super honoured to be acting alongside you.”an enthusiastic Varma just could not tweeting about his “admiration”.
In a series of tweets, he wrote, "This man by being the biggest star ever completely destroys the notion of looks being important for stardom...He is a bad looker,doesn't have 6 packs ,short with a disproportionate body n knows just 2 nd half dance movements...

Naturally, there was backlash. Comments from Fans of Rajni ranged from mildly disapproving to lacerating to downright stinging.
And then came the clarification: "Some superdumb fans of Rajnikant dint even realise that I was only complimenting the superstar...Dumb fans of Rajni who dint realise my tweets r compliment shud realise Rajni himself makes fun of himself (sic)."
