In the middle of all the commotion is a photo of a letter that has been doing the rounds on WhatsApp. The letter was apparently sent by the senior personal assistant of the minister of information and publicity to the manager of Abirami Theatre, in Chennai. It asks the manager to "issue 10 tickets for the 'KABALI' film First Show on 22-07-2016 to the bearer of this letter Thiru. Rizwan."

The letter carries the seal of the information and publicity ministry and is signed by V. Premkumar, the senior personal assistant of the minister.

At a time when price for the ticket have soared, and theatres (which used to charge Rs 80 for a movie) now charging at least Rs 500, this letter could create trouble.

July 22, the day of the movie release, has been declared as a holiday for many companies. Some have even got free tickets for their staff.
