Baahubali continues

Baahubali’s second instalment, Baahubali: The Conclusion continued to be the talking point even this week. The curiosity after the cliffhanger at the end of the first part, led to a business that was unimaginable. It broke almost every existing record at the Indian, as well international, box-office for any Indian film. In its opening weekend, it crossed the 100 crore mark. The film made Rs 41 crore in Hindi (+ 80 crores in Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam) on day one. On day two, it crossed Rs 50 crore in the Hindi market. On Monday, an exuberant Karan Johar, who presented the movie in the Hindi market, tweeted, “When the Monday behaves like day 1...it’s no longer a cinema celebration its a cinema revolution! Monday (Hindi) at 40.25!!!” The war epic, at the end of the sixth day, smashed all box office records to become India’s top grossing film. According to Box Office India, its worldwide gross stood at Rs 792 crore while the film is still running with good occupancy.

Tubelight teaser release

Meanwhile, Tubelight, starring Salman Khan, seems to be creating enough anticipation too. The teaser trailer of the movie was finally released on Thursday night. The film, based on the backdrop of the Indo-China conflict, features child actor Matin and the Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, alongside Salman Khan who is teaming up with filmmaker Kabir Khan. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was the last time the actor and filmmaker joined hands. They had created history at the box-office, raising the expectations for Tubelight. A special screening for the teaser was organised for the fans of the actor in Mumbai.

Salim Khan, Salman Khan's father, faced criticism when he opposed the installation of a public toilet by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation opposite his home, along the Bandra Bandstand promenade. Since Salman has been the brand ambassador of BMC for its drive against open defecation since December 2016, the opposition was met with criticism. However, Salim Khan told media that he supports the move, but building toilets in the middle of the promenade can create nuisance.

Kangana turns director

Kangana Ranaut, too, launched the poster of her upcoming film Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi on the banks of the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi. The poster focuses on the battle-lit eyes of a turbaned Kangana, who plays Rani Lakshmibai in the film. While talking to the media at the launch, she also announced that she would be turning a filmmaker now with a comedy film in the offing.

Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai returns

Over a decade later, the cult comedy show Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai is returning to the online streaming platform Hotstar as Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai Take 2 on May 16. Almost a year ago, when the talks about the second season of the show had just begun, Ratna Pathak Shah during an interaction with THE WEEK, had said that as much as she would love to reprise the role of Maya Sarabhai, she had reservations about the quality of writing, as everything on television has been going downhill. However, as the show is set to be streamed on Hotstar, the CEO of the platform Ajit Mohan assured that Take 2 is truly a ground-breaking offering and a disruptor.
