Amitabh Bachchan's look in Shoojit Sircar's new film, Pink, is menacing and mildly disturbing. He plays a lawyer, working on a case in which a woman is accused of murder. The trailer, out on August 9, promises a riveting social thriller, dark and unrelenting.

Bold performances by Taapsee Pannu (from Baby), Kirti Kulhari (of Shaitaan fame) and Bachchan are something to look forward to, along with Angad Bedi and Piyush Mishra.

Sircar is co-producing the film with TV producer Rashmi Sharma, while the film is Bengali director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's debut in Bollywood.

What stands out in the trailer is the queasy sexual questions that the women are asked while in the court room. It reflects real-life instances where sexual assault survivors are asked to explain their ordeal in minute detail, and dwell upon sexual history and character assassination.

The story is set in Delhi and revolves around the incidents of one night, when Taapsee's character is taken by men in a car. Things go wrong, she gets arrested, and appears in court. Bachchan's character seems to walk on the edge of good and bad, as he is seen in a mask, lurking around.

After his serious roles in Te3n and Wazir, Bachchan plays yet another serious character.

In the days leading to the release of the trailer, Bachchan tweeted a teaser, which caught the attention of his fans. He also tweeted with the hashtag #WhatIsPink.

The film releases on September 16.
