The Mersal controversy refuses to die down in Tamil Nadu. The issues between the BJP and actor Vijay’s fans seem to be far from over, as a fresh set of salvo has been fired by one of the BJP district secretaries against a Vijay fan who posted derogatory comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Srivilluiputhur police had registered a FIR against an engineering student S. Thirumurugan for allegedly posting comments against Modi and his foreign trips, based on a complaint filed by BJP Madurai District Secretary K. Marimuthu.
Marimuthu lodged a complaint with the Srivilliputhur police against Thirumurugan for posting comments against Modi between October 23 and 29. As per the FIR registered by the Srivillupthur police Thirumurugan has been charged under CrPC section 505 for public mischief and IPC section 67 IT ACT, 2008 for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form.
He has been remanded to judicial custody after being produced in the Judicial magistrate court II in Srivilliputhur. The FIR further gives details of the mobile number which was used by Thirumurugan to post the comments.

The comments according to the FIR are against Modi and his foreign trips. The FIR further says that Thirumurugan used abusive words in the comments against Modi and posted it with a fake name called Sachin Thiru.
Thirumurugan had been taken into custody by the Srivilliputhur police based on Marimuthu’s complaint for further investigation. According to Srivilliputhur police, Thirumurgan had actually reacted to a meme on actor Vijay and his GST dialogues in the Mersal movie, which was sent by Marimuthu to his FB Messenger. The meme reportedly criticises Vijay for the wrong figures given out in the movie on GST and the controversial dialogues on health care in India.
Offended by the meme and comments against Vijay, Thirumurugan had reacted to Mairmuthu in abusive words against Modi. But Thirumurgan’s below the belt comments made Marimuthu lodge a police complaint. Marimuthu has produced the details of the chat to the police and had demanded action against Thirumurugan. “He accepted that he had sent the messages,” say the Srivilliputhur police.
However with this the Mersal controversy and the ongoing tussle between the Vijay fans and BJP had moved up further.
The BJP leaders actually wanted the controversial dialogues removed from the movie saying it would mislead the public.
Mersal, which actually is a typical, average Vijay film grossed over Rs 200 crore in the first weekend.
