A seemingly innocent advertisement of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri on front page of a popular Urdu newspaper has outraged many in Pakistan. Many including journalists took to social media to lash out at the newspaper in question by describing advertisement as “cheap” and “obscenity.”
In the ad, Nargis in a body-hugging red dress is seen lying on her stomach, while holding a mobile phone that she was prompting. The ad appeared on the front page of Urdu newspaper, Jang.
The first tweet from a Pakistani journalist set off a raging debate on Twitter. While many slammed the ad and the newspaper for featuring it, some took a liberal stand and questioned the outrage.
My strong protest to top jang group management for this absurd front page ad in today's jang. pic.twitter.com/M5SRc1p3H7— Ansar Abbasi (@AnsarAAbbasi) December 20, 2015
