Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui's tweet has opened up the nasty debate on racism in Bollywood. However, the actor clarified that it was just a thought that he had tweeted and he did not intend to degrade the whole industry.
"It was just a thought that I tweeted. It's not that the entire industry is like that. I have been working here for five years and have been accepted well. Such things are not just restricted to Bollywood. They happen everywhere. Even mothers tell their sons to get a fair bride. I don't know why and what this concept is but such things do exist and that's a fact,” he says.
This is not the first time that the Gangs of Wasseypur actor has been criticised for his looks. The actor says that throughout his life he has been judged him for his looks.
“I have been hearing that I am not fair and good looking since my childhood. I remember as a child when I had told my friends about my acting dreams, everybody thought I was crazy. They told me that I did not have a 'face' to become an actor. Even during my struggling days in Mumbai, people have given me a cold shoulder at auditions. They have told me, 'Are you an actor? But you don't look like one',” says Nawaz.
On asking Nawaz what gets him going despite such turbulent voices. He says, “I don't consider myself as a big celebrity and don't like glorifying myself otherwise I will not be able to focus on my work. I am just here to do my job and I leave it for people to decide.”
The actor will be next seen in Munna Michael that will hit theatres tomorrow.
