With Priyanka-Nick dolls, celebrity fetish reaches fresh heights

priyanka-nick Priyanka-Nick dolls, now in vogue

In this season of celebrity weddings, none stood out other than the union between Nick of Jonas brothers fame and the Bollywood-heartthrob-turned-Hollywood-sweetheart Priyanka Chopra. Unlike the Italian wedding of their contemporaries Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, who set up security tighter than a G20 summit—snipers and a moat full of crocodiles brought up exclusively on paparazzi meat comes to mind—they chose a relatively light-hearted affair in Rajasthan's gorgeous Jodhpur.

For their own, the country reserves its trademark 'hate-love', a rite of initiation which the duo underwent firsthand. First descended the Twitter trolls. How dare PeeCee use firecrackers when she herself campaigned against it? "Wonderful display of secular, non polluting, noiseless, animal friendly, pre 8pm fireworks in Bollywoodstan," wrote one user.

Then came PETA India, swords ablaze, questioning how Nick dared to ride a horse during the ceremony. PETA India took to Twitter to blast the couple who tied the knot as per Hindu traditions on Sunday in Jodhpur. They had exchanged wedding vows as per Christian rituals on Saturday. "Dear @priyankachopra and @nickjonas. Elephants for weddings live and chains and horses are controlled with whips, spiked bits. People are rejecting elephant rides and having horse-free weddings. Congrats, but we regret it was not a happy day for animals," the animal rights' organisation wrote on the microblogging site.

After the bullets to the abdomen came the bearhug. Images of Priyanka-Nick dolls, apparently crafted by Jodhpur-based Manoj Chauhan, flooded the internet. Thankfully, sans the weirdness of the Taimur Ali Khan 'barbies'. The couple landed in Delhi for the reception tomorrow.

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas had exchanged wedding vows as per Catholic traditions at Umaid Bhawan Palace on Saturday. The couple had a dual wedding. The Christian wedding will be followed by a grand Hindu traditional ceremony on Sunday. The respective families of the bride and the groom including Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra, brother Siddharth and cousins Parineeti and Mannara Chopra and Nick's parents Paul Kevin Sr and Denise, brother Kevin and his wife Danielle, and brother Joe, and his fiancee Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, arrived on Thursday.
