In a major escalation to the row over his exit from Farhan Akhtar's Don 3, Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh has been officially banned by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).

The actor, who is fresh off the success of Dhurandhar 2, was issued with a strict Non-Cooperation Directive (NCD)—which effectively instructs the industry not to work with him—until he resolves the dispute over the Rs 45 crore in damages incurred by the makers of Don 3.

The decision was announced in a press conference on Monday, a week after the film body took up the matter based on an official complaint from Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, whose production studio, Excel Entertainment, is making the film.

"Sudden exits from projects by senior and established actors at crucial stages pose a serious threat to the stability and working ecology of the entertainment industry," the film body said in its press release announcing the ban.

"FWICE firmly believes that the entire film industry functions as one extended family, where every individual associated with different crafts and departments contributes collectively towards the successful creation of a project," it added.

The actor then responded to the FWICE ban, stating that he had "consciously chosen to maintain silence, believing that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect".

"He continues to hold deep respect and goodwill for all those involved and sincerely wishes the franchise continued success. Choosing restraint and grace in moments like these has always been a conscious decision on his part, and he will continue to maintain the same stance," the statement added.

The April exit row

The dispute over Don 3 reportedly dates back to mid-2024, when Ranveer's Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani did not end up becoming the blockbuster it was meant to be after his consecutive box office flops in Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Cirkus.

The social media backlash over the replacement of Shah Rukh Khan with Ranveer Singh as the lead actor for the third film in the Don franchise and alleged creative differences behind the scenes are also said to have caused uncertainty around the film's production at the time.

While Ranveer waited for the go-ahead from Excel Entertainment for Don 3, the uncertainty allegedly persisted, which finally led to him taking up Dhurandhar in the second half of 2024.

It was only after Dhurandhar became a massive success that Excel Entertainment suddenly broke the uncertainty and hyped up Don 3. However, by then, Ranveer allegedly was not convinced with the film, and decided to reject his lead role in the film in April 2026.

Going forward

In their complaint to FWICE, the Don 3 makers have alleged that all the pre-production costs that they had incurred till Ranveer's exit 10 days before shooting—amounting to Rs 45 crore—had to be settled entirely by him.

The federation noted that after their notices to him, the Bollywood actor refused to discuss the matter with them, stating that the issue required an "appropriate" forum instead.

Despite the NCD in his name, FWICE has also signalled that it was open to resolving the dispute amicably.

It also used the issue to make a statement on honoring film contracts in order to run smoothly as an industry.

While the rumours around his marriage to Kavya Maran, the owner of IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad, are not new, a new report speculates that the stylish duo may have an overseas wedding, sparking excitement among fans.

According to Filmibeat Tamil, their families had already discussed their marriage and decided on the date, said to be sometime in November this year.

Preparations for the high-profile wedding are also allegedly underway, with the marriage rumoured to take place in Spain, followed by a grand reception in Chennai.

However, neither of them have spoken out about the wedding, which has so far only been discussed in media reports and discussion threads on X and Reddit.

Rumours of Anirudh dating the SRH owner go back at least a year, when they were spotted together multiple times at public events or IPL matches.

The rumours intensified after the duo were even spotted walking together on the streets of New York City, at which point the composer dismissed the rumours.

"Marriage ah? lol ... Chill out guys ... pls stop spreading rumours," he had written in an X post in June 2025.

Fans of the music composer have also pointed out online that Ravichander is a longtime collaborator with the production houses of Kavya's father, Kalanithi Maran, the owner and founder of Sun Group.

Notably, Sun Group is the parent company of Sun Pictures, which has produced Jailer, Beast, and Coolie—all films that had Ravichander as the composer.

The Dhanush-starrer Tamil crime thriller "Kara" is gearing up for its OTT release nearly a month after its theatrical release. Netflix has made it official that the Vignesh Raja directorial, which follows the director's hit debut "Por Thozhil", will release on the platform on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

The movie will premiere exclusively on Netflix in its original Tamil language, along with dubbed versions in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

With a predominantly gritty tone, the film, which revolves around a survival-driven heist drama, is set against a 1990s rural backdrop. The plot follows a reformed thief who is dragged back into a world of crime after predatory banks trap his family and seize their ancestral land.

Alongside Dhanush, the movie features an ensemble cast including Mamitha Baiju, K.S. Ravikumar, and Suraj Venjaramoodu. The musical score is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar.

In its review of the film, THE WEEK wrote that "despite aiming for a more emotional storytelling this time around, the film doesn't quite succeed at pulling it off. Besides, the nearly three-hour runtime also begins to wear us out after a certain point. However, it gives Vignesh enough opportunities to stage some of the most elaborate and suspenseful heist sequences ever put to film. And to his credit, they are not 'lifted' from any Hollywood movie."

That said, the review also added that "the film suffers a bit from presenting an all-too-familiar protagonist, someone quite similar to Dhanush from 'Idli Kadai' (which the actor also directed). The repetitive melodramatic beats, with the urge to accompany them with dated musical choices, occasionally weaken the film in its pre-interval portions."

Riteish Deshmukh's "Raja Shivaji" has, by far, achieved four major historic milestones. After officially becoming the highest-grossing Marathi film of all time globally, it has become the first Marathi film in history to cross the 100 crore net milestone in India.

1. It passed the long-standing global lifetime record of former number 1 grosser "Sairat" (Rs 110 crore gross) in its third week.

2. It became the first-ever Marathi language film to breach Rs 100 crore net in India, after it crossed Rs 101.40 crore net on Day 24.

3. It became the biggest Marathi-language opener, shattering the regional opening day records by debuting with Rs 11.35 crore to Rs 12.40 crore net on Maharashtra Day.

4. It also became the fastest Marathi film to reach the Rs 50 crore domestic net milestone, hitting it in just one week.

It must be said that the hyper-targeted regional performance of Riteish's film, which he also directed, is outperforming standard Bollywood trajectories. Bollywood operates on significantly higher production budgets (typically Rs 150 – 350 crore) and a wide nationwide multi-language reach.

Comparatively, "Raja Shivaji", with a Rs 101.40 crore domestic net primarily driven by single-state earnings (from Maharashtra), and localised theatre occupancy (averaging nearly 76% in early weeks), matches or beats the density of big-ticket Hindi releases.

Also, many mainstream Bollywood releases struggle to recover their massive Rs 200+ crore (and above) budgets. "Raja Shivaji", on the other hand, recovered its reported Rs 75 crore budget within 10 days and is currently logging pure profit for the producers.

Released simultaneously in Hindi and Marathi, the film functioned as a mid-tier Bollywood project itself. The Hindi version alone generated over Rs 6.40 crore net within its first two days, demonstrating competitive crossover appeal in the Hindi belt.

However, it was the Marathi original version that generated the highest revenue, bringing in approximately Rs 68 to 70 crore net out of the film's total domestic net collections.

"Karuppu" is showing exceptional hold in its second weekend, registering its highest Sunday earnings since the first Sunday after release. This signals strong legs for the Suriya-starrer, which has already established itself as the actor's highest-grossing film ever. The film has ended a massive box office drought in Kollywood, with close to 240 crore in worldwide gross already, and is securely on its way to hit the 250 crore milestone (or more), especially now that Eid holidays are approaching.

Of the India gross total, Tamil Nadu brought in the most revenue, contributing roughly 65% of the total gross. When looking at the comparative share out of the total worldwide gross, the TN revenue represents about 27.3%.

Internationally, the movie maintained strong traction over its second weekend. This steady flow positions the RJ Balaji directorial among the best overseas performers for Kollywood in recent years, largely bolstered by Suriya’s historical international draw and the appeal of its fantasy elements.

Before the release of "Karuppu", the Tamil Nadu theatrical ecosystem had not witnessed a Rs 100 crore earner since Rajinikanth's "Coolie" in August 2025. "Karuppu" officially broke that drought, becoming the 24th film in history to enter the elite Tamil Nadu 100 crore club.

Within its first week, "Karuppu" easily outperformed the lifetime numbers of Suriya's past hits like "Singam 2", "Singam 3" and his 2025 movie "Retro".

The movie fell just 47% from its first weekend to its second weekend. A drop under 50% is rare for South Indian big-budget films, indicating a powerful response driven by positive word-of-mouth from family audiences rather than just front-loaded fan hype. This is similar to some of the recent Indian blockbusters, which maintained impressive numbers in the second week too.

The Eid holidays should add a further boost in week two, since there are no other Indian competitors. The only other big Indian movie releasing on Eid is the much-anticipated Malayalam movie "Kaattalan", from the producers of "Marco". But it shouldn't be a threat to "Karuppu", considering Suriya's massive star power.

The fantasy action flick, which features Trisha as the female lead, with Malayalam actors Indrans and Anagha Ravi in strong supporting roles, and RJ Balaji in a negative role, has netted Rs 148.85 crore domestically. It will easily cross the Rs 175 crore net milestone by the third weekend.

As for worldwide, if the weekday drop remains stabilised under 20%, the movie is well-positioned to finish its theatrical run with a lifetime worldwide gross between Rs 280 - 300 crore, which would be very impressive for a film with an estimated budget of Rs 135 crore.

Filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn has been working on a remake of the 1988 serial killer thriller "Maniac Cop" for a long time. After a decade-long wait, the man behind "Drive", "Bronson" and "Pusher" trilogy is finally putting the wheels in motion, with full financial support from streaming platform Mubi, alongside co-producing partner Goodfellas. Refn is also a producer through his byNWR Originals.

Filming is expected to commence in Los Angeles in January 2027. Cast and crew details have not been revealed.

As per Variety, the idea is to go for a wide theatrical release across countries, with the sales in other countries being managed by the firm Veterans. Christina Erritzøe and Kimberly Willming are executive producers for the company, while Vincent Maraval is executive producer for Goodfellas.

Mubi will distribute the movie in North America, Latin America, the U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, and other regions.

The original "Maniac Cop", directed by William Lustig and written by Larry Cohen, follows a killer dressed as a police officer murdering people across New York City. No spoilers, but there's a reason for the murders — a dark, terrible past that has something to do with the establishment itself. The film became popular as a cult classic and later inspired two sequels.

Sacnilk's box office data show that the total India gross collections are currently clocked at Rs 154.99 crore and total India net at Rs 133.85 crore. With a total overseas gross of Rs 62.75 crore, the cumulative global total now stands at Rs 217.74 crore.

This 9-day data demonstrates the film is performing exceptionally well — basically, all the characteristics of a major box office hit. The second Saturday performance is indicative of excellent audience retention and positive mouth publicity.

The Day 9 dip relative to the early daily average is completely normal for a second-week weekday-to-weekend transition, but the double-digit domestic net on Day 9 points toward a massive second Sunday surge.
Domestic markets continue to be driving the bulk of the revenue (71.2%), while a healthy overseas contribution (28.8%) provides a strong financial cushion.

Maintaining nearly 5,000 shows into its second week proves sustained screen demand and strong confidence from the exhibitors' side — the results are there for all to see, regardless of mixed reviews from certain corners.

The ongoing controversy inside the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has become more serious after actress and former Joint Secretary Ansiba Hassan publicly accused actor Tiny Tom of spreading false rumours about her, targeting her personally, and creating an unhealthy atmosphere inside the organisation.

In a recent chat with Reporter TV, she claimed that her problems began soon after she became the Joint Secretary of AMMA, though she was the only bearer who was elected unopposed. She alleged that normal differences of opinion during committee meetings gradually turned into personal attacks against her.

“In any committee, everyone will not always have the same opinion, but because of those differences, personal grudges were shown towards me,” Hassan claimed.

One of the biggest allegations raised by her is that Tiny Tom allegedly spread rumours about her personal life, claiming she was having an “illicit relationship” with other committee members.

Hassan also pointed out that even though she had ignored the rumours initially, things took a turn for the worse when religious allegations started spreading.

She claimed that Tom had allegedly told several people that she was actively trying to convert people, including his driver and the son of the production controller.

She noted it was actress Neena Kurup who informed her about these incidents. She claimed Kurup herself had faced verbal abuse from Tiny Tom during preparations for the AMMA family gathering.

“Even on the eve of the AMMA family gathering, there was a fight where Tiny Tom allegedly tried to physically attack Neena Kurup. Many of us heard the audio clips that later came out,” she said.

“I heard that people had to physically restrain him to stop him from hitting Neena chechi. I wasn’t personally present there during that incident, but many members witnessed it. The incident happened at around 11 PM or midnight on the eve of the family gathering,” Hassan added.

Another major issue the actress raised was regarding the sponsorship of the AMMA family event by a religious institution. She clarified that she was against the sponsorship not because of that institution, but because she believed AMMA should remain neutral and should not be associated with any religious group.

However, she alleged that after expressing this opinion, she was labelled 'communal' and even called a “jihadi”.

Hassan also revealed that another female Executive Committee member later filed a police complaint against her at the Thrippunithura Police Station. The complaint alleged that a message that the actress had sent caused domestic violence inside the complainant’s home.

Ansiba refuted the complaint as baseless, and stated that she was harassed at the police station for nearly three hours.

“They forced me to sign a statement saying I regretted sending the message,” she alleged.

The actress also informed the AMMA Executive Committee's WhatsApp group about the issue, seeking support. However, she claimed the then-President had said that the matter had “nothing to do with AMMA”, while Tiny Tom allegedly dismissed it as a “stupid case".

Hassan noted that the emotional stress, rumours, and lack of support eventually forced her to resign from AMMA after the family gathering in February.

Although her resignation letter officially mentioned “work pressure”, she now claims the real reason was the unhealthy atmosphere inside the organisation.

“I became scared ... I feared that speaking publicly would damage the organisation’s reputation and also affect my career," she admitted, adding that she finally decided to speak publicly because rumours about her continued to spread across the film industry.

The controversy has now gone beyond an internal conflict and has raised larger concerns about power struggles inside AMMA, the treatment of its female members, religious targeting, the misuse of authority, and the lack of proper systems to handle complaints within the organisation.

Filmmaker Mike Judge, known for "Idiocracy", "Silicon Valley", and "King of the Hill", is reportedly developing a comedy series with Ben Stiller attached to star as the lead.

According to Variety, the show is titled "Protective Custody". Judge will direct.

The official logline says Stiller plays "a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who is thrown into protective custody, where he must navigate prison politics, salvage his reputation, and confront the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial.”

Steve Hely (“Veep", “The Office”) and Dave King (“Parks and Recreation,” “English Teacher”) are said to be co-writing the series with Judge, while also undertaking executive producer and showrunner duties jointly. Stiller is also an exec producer.

This marks Stiller's third collaboration with Apple TV, following the highly acclaimed "Severance" (on which he worked as a director and exec producer) and his second acting venture for the platform after the recently announced series "The Off Weeks". In the meantime, Stiller is also at work on a third season of "Severance".

Stiller is also actively working on several high-profile movie projects, both in front of and behind the camera. After focusing heavily on directing television in recent years, he is making a major return to feature films. There is the fourth "Meet the Parents" film ", Focker-in-Law" (slated for November 2026 release), which sees the return of Robert De Niro, Owen Wilson, and new cast member Ariana Grande.

He is also starring in "A Matter of Time" for Netflix and Sony. Nicholas Galitzine and Bella Maclean are his co-stars in this supernatural romance film directed by Harry Bradbeer ("Enola Holmes").

The third movie project is "The Dink" (arriving July 2026), which he is also producing. It's a pickleball sports comedy co-starring Jake Johnson, Ed Harris, and Mary Steenburgen.

One of Malayalam cinema’s most successful thrillers is set for another international chapter. After impressing audiences across multiple languages and countries, Drishyam is now getting an official Indonesian remake titled Ayah, Aku Mau Cerita (“Dad, I Want to Tell You…”). The film is scheduled to release in theatres on August 20, 2026.

Produced by Falcon Pictures, the Indonesian adaptation stars real-life celebrity couple Vino G. Bastian and Marsha Timothy, although they will not be playing lovers on screen. Instead, they take on opposite sides of the story’s central conflict. Bastian plays the protective father trying to shield his family from danger, while Timothy plays the police officer determined to uncover the truth.

The film is written and directed by Danial Rifki, known for adapting thrillers for Indonesian audiences. Producer Frederica of Falcon Pictures said the team was excited to bring the story to life in a new setting. “We are thrilled to bring this iconic story to life with Danial Rifki at the helm,” she said. “Pitting Vino G. Bastian against Marsha Timothy as protagonist and antagonist adds a layer of emotional and cinematic tension that is truly unprecedented in our industry.”

The journey of ‘Drishyam' itself has been remarkable. Since its release in 2013, the film has already been remade in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, while also reaching international audiences through Sinhala and Chinese versions. With Indonesia now joining that list, the film continues to expand its global reach.

Producer Antony Perumbavoor shared his happiness about this milestone, saying, “We are happy to announce that ‘Drishyam' has become the first Malayalam movie to be remade into Indonesian language. What to know about upcoming spin-off 'The Boys: Mexico'

Alongside "Vought Rising", the franchise's other major upcoming project is The Boys: Mexico. The spin-off moves the franchise outside the United States for the first time. It is a Spanish-language series set in Mexico City that explores the lives and political realities of international Supes outside Vought's traditional control, with an independent storyline set after the events of "The Boys" Season 5 series finale. It will deal with the global power vacuum left in the wake of the main show's climax.

Renowned Mexican actors Diego Luna ("Andor") and Gael García Bernal ("Magellan") are serving as executive producers and are rumoured to play minor on-screen roles. When compared to other entries in Kollywood's "200 crore club", "Karuppu" stands out due to its rapid pace and strong regional box office trajectory. It is now expected to surpass "Beast", "Vettaiyan", and "Sarkar" in total worldwide gross. It could even reach the Rs 300 crore milestone, to sit alongside hits like "Bigil" and "Amaran".

In terms of pace, "Karuppu" has hit the 200 crore benchmark faster than blockbusters like "Mersal", "Petta", and "Thunivu". And unlike other biggies like "Beast" or "Darbar" — which hit the Rs 200 crore mark quickly due to massive initial fan bookings but suffered sharp post-weekend drops — "Karuppu" has demonstrated excellent hold across shows. It witnessed only a marginal 3.7% drop on its second Friday.

While early entries in this club (like Vijay's "Sarkar" or "Mersal") relied heavily on massive, record-breaking runs in Tamil Nadu, "Karuppu" is benefiting from a more balanced split, as per data obtained from various sources. The film's record-breaking run in Kerala and strong performance across North America and the Middle East are supplementing its domestic earnings.

The international market has contributed Rs 60 crore gross to the film's worldwide total so far, according to Sacnilk box office figures. "Karuppu" registered Suriya's biggest opening weekend ever in international markets, earning over Rs 42 crore gross in its first three days. The film's primary overseas momentum is heavily concentrated in North America, the Middle East (GCC), and Malaysia, notably standard lucrative territories for high-profile Kollywood releases.

Meanwhile, Kerala has emerged as an exceptional market for "Karuppu", making it the highest-grossing film of Suriya's career in the state, followed by "24", "Singam 2" and "Singam 3". The actor has historically commanded a massive and loyal fanbase in Kerala. Strengthened by strong family audience support and largely positive mouth publicity, the film shattered the records of the actor’s earlier films within its first week. It earned over Rs 10 crore in the state.

Drishyam 3 opened with a bang on May 21, marking Mohanlal's birthday amid predictions of Rs 100 crore collection in the first weekend.

On Day 1, Drishyam 3 minted Rs 43.37 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk figures. Going by this trend, the movie could easily cross Rs 50 crore on Day 2 and Rs 100 crore in its opening weekend.

The worldwide figure includes Rs 25 crore in overseas earnings and Rs 18.37 crore in gross domestic box office collection.

The net domestic collection. was recorded at Rs 15.85 crore from 5,396 shows, reports Sacnilk. This includes Rs 13.7 crore in Malayalam, Rs 1.5 crore in Telugu, Rs 45 lakh in Tamil and Rs 20 lakh in Kannada. The Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn is set to release on October 2.

This is less than Mohanlal's highest grosser L2 Empuraan, which raked in Rs 21 crore in net earnings on its opening day and Rs 70 crore in worldwide collection.

However, it has surpassed the net collection of Thudarum, which was recorded at Rs 5.45 crore. However, the worldwide collection of Thudarum is Rs 16.65 crore, higher than Drishyam 3.

On Thursday, Mohanlal took to social media, saying, "Drishyam 3 was made with immense love, passion, and gratitude, and seeing that love come back through your response has been deeply moving. Your reviews, your words, and the emotions you have shared mean far more to me than any number ever can. The trailer of Drishyam 3 hints that the police are looking to reopen the murder case once again as Georgekutty played by Mohanlal makes plans to save his family from prison once again. Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil and others will reprise their roles from the earlier movies.

The first instalment, Drishyam, released in 2013 and was the first Malayalam movie to earn Rs 50 crore in the box office. Drishyam 2, which released in 2021 amid pandemic, was restricted to OTT.
