The jeweller has close family relations with the Ambani family

Even as billionaire Nirav Modi, the accused in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank scam, remains absconding, media reports reveal that the jeweller has close family relations with the Ambani family.

Modi's brother, Neeshal Modi is married to Isheta Salgaonkar, the niece of Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani.

Isheta is the daughter of prominent Goa industrialist Dattaraj Salgaonkar. Salgaonkar is the husband of Mukesh Ambani's sister Dipti.

Reports also claim that Modi’s chief financial officer Vipul Ambani is the son of Dhirubhai Ambani’s youngest brother Natubhai Ambani.

Meanwhile, a special court in Mumbai remanded three persons arrested in the Rs 11,400 crore scam in 14-day custody. The CBI told the court that it suspects the involvement of more PNB officials in the case.

The state-owned PNB has detected a USD 1.77 billion scam where Modi allegedly acquired fraudulent letters of undertaking (LoUs) from the Brady House branch of the bank in south Mumbai to secure overseas credit from other lenders.
