Presence of Nobel laureates, an exhibition on Nobel laureates, BSE starting its international operations from the Gift City and a seminar on GST will be some of the highlights of the 8th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit that would kick start in Gandhinagar from January 10.

Gujarat's chief secretary J.N. Singh said in Ahmedabad on Saturday that they were expecting presence of eight to ten Nobel laureates from the field of science. These persons would have interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is to inaugurate the four-day event. They will also have a panel discussion.

On being asked if Amartya Sen was invited, Singh said that the suggestion was welcomed but this time around they had invited Nobel laureates only from the field of science.

Singh oozed confidence as he said in reply to a question that demonitization would not have any impact on the investments being pledged at the Summit. He said he was hoping to see investments in newer sectors. “People come for a long term,” he quipped.

Additional chief secretary (industries and mines) P. K. Taneja said that the focus of the summit had not remained confined to investments but had expanded to issues like ideation.

The BSE starting its international operations from the Gift City, round table conference of the Global CEOs are the other highlights of the event that began in 2003 on a small scale during the tenure of Modi as Gujarat's chief minister. The organisers are expecting 25-30 CEOs from abroad and as many as from India. They said that this time top shots would attend the meet and not the second or third rung leaders of the companies.

Action seminars on start ups, smart cities, biotechnology, food processing, textiles, aerospace and defence, plastics, engineering, heavy engineering and automotive will also be organised.

Without getting into the amount, Taneja said that the success rate of the MoUs signed in the previous seven editions was 66.17 per cent. He also refrained from commenting on the amount to be spent on the mega scale event which, according to Singh, would be by far the most exciting and exceeding any such events being organised in the country.
