US dollar falls amid geopolitical tensions

The US dollar decreased against most other major currencies as rising geopolitical tensions between North Korea and the US weighed on the market.

In late New York trading on Sept 22, the euro rose to $1.1948 from $1.1931 in the previous session, and the British pound fell to $1.3531 from $1.3573 in the previous session. 

The Australian dollar climbed to $0.7968 from $0.7930.

The US dollar bought 112.00 Japanese yen, lower than 112.55 yen of the previous session. The US dollar decreased to 0.9699 Swiss franc from 0.9717 Swiss franc, and it moved down to 1.2335 Canadian dollars from 1.2347 Canadian dollars.

On the economic front, the seasonally adjusted HIS Markit Flash US Composite PMI Output Index came in at 54.6 in September, down slightly from 55.3 in August and missing market consensus of 54.9.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.12 per cent at 92.150 in late trading.
