Triumph launches 40s classic Bobber bikes in India

triumph-bobber-1 The Bonneville Bobber launched on Thursday in New Delhi | Soumik Dey

At a time when major global car brands like Porsche and BMW are looking at retro stylings, British bikemaker Triumph Motorcycle continues to relive the past glory with the launch of its iconic Bonneville Bobber in India.

The Bonneville Bobber that caught the fancy of dragsters, racers and stunt performers in the 1940s and 1950s, continued to be a favourite till the 1970s.

Now, Triumph Motorcycle has made available the iconic motorcycle, albeit souped up as a 2017 version, with more power and better looks to offer.

Starting off with the classic fuel tank and straight bar handles, the Bobber stands out with its single seat and mono-suspension look. Also, its rear tyre is wider than the front, providing the bike better traction and cornering ability.

But hold on to your seats. Because powering this beautiful frame is a monstrous 1200cc liquid cooled engine (a first in Indian bikes). The engine can crank upto 76 BHP at 6100 RPM.

To bridle the power, the bike has stubby silencers that can play a music of their own when revved. Also onboard are traction control, torque assist, wet and multi-plate clutch control.

The bike is easy on the environment too. Again, the first bike following Euro-IV emission norms in India returns a mileage of 25 km per litre and has a range of 225 km on a full tank of fuel (9.1 litre).

"The adjustable seat is the most exciting feature in the bike as you can customise your riding position. The digital meters are also adjustable to cut out the glare from sun. All this contribute to better control," said Vimal Sumbly, managing director, Triumph Motorcycles India.

The bike also has two modes for its transmission and runs on customised tyres. It has two different custom kits available, namely the old school Bobber and the quarter mile Bobber. Both are available in five colours.

This luxury bike, which boasts all major features of a luxury car, bears a launch price tag of Rs 9.09 Lakhs. The custom kits come for an additional Rs 1.5 lakh.
