The government is going to come up with a new electronics policy. Union Minister for IT and Electronics Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Friday after a consultation round with industry on developing a new roadmap for trillion dollar digital economy. The government is also working on a framework for data security and data protection, informed Prasad.

Given the importance of start-ups in digital economy, the government is also planning to come up with special innovative zones that will work as a start-up cluster. A dispute resolution framework was among the other major announcements that was made by the minister.

Prominent industry stalwarts, including Rajan Anandan, Raman Roy, Rishad Premji, Kris Gopalakrishnan, R Chandrashekhar and Saurabh Srivastava, were among those who attended the meeting. The discussion ranged from electronics manufacturing, promotion of digital economy, cyber security, BPOs to start-ups.

"We had a very free and frank discussion for two and a half an hour. There was a unanimity that one trillion dollar digital economy is an understatement and we can very well be 3-4 trillion dollar digital economy," said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

During the meeting there was a suggestion that jobs should go to people rather than people coming to jobs. The minister has asked the department of IT to work on this.

The IT and electronics ministry will work with HRD, health and agriculture ministry to promote and facilitate more start-ups in the area of health, education and agriculture.
