INCOME TAX

Last date for filing I-T returns extended to August 5

Income-Tax-PTI Returns will not be processed until the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN is done | PTI

For all the people who were fretting over the last date of tax filing, relax! The last date for filing tax returns has been extended to August 5, 2017. Also, as of now it would be sufficient to quote Aadhaar or acknowledgment number in the e-filing website. The actual linking of PAN with Aadhaar can be done subsequently, but before August 31, 2017.  However, the returns will not be processed until the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN is done.

The extension comes as a big relief to people who were not able to e-file their tax returns either because of technical glitch or being unable to link Aadhar and PAN.

The income tax return filing process was a bit different this year, compared to earlier. There was requirement of linking PAN with Aadhaar, compulsory quoting of Aadhaar in tax returns, receiving TDS certificates late (as compared to earlier years) from employers and other deductors.

Because of CAs being busy with GST, a lot of them have been calling for extension of the deadline. Further, the Income Tax department's e-filing website has seen glitches and shut downs for maintenance over the last fortnight.
