Jet Airways aims to make Bengaluru its third hub in India

Jet-Airways The airline says there is an increase in traffic on its metro routes on late night flights

Jet Airways is aiming to make the IT city Bengaluru its third hub in India after Mumbai and Delhi. The airline is also launching its direct daily flights from Bengaluru to Singapore and Colombo. The Singapore flight will take off on December 14, 2016 and its inaugural daily flight to Colombo will take off on January 5, 2017. The airline will deploy Boeing 737-800 Next Generation (NG) aircraft on both these routes offering premiere and economy classes.

“Bengaluru is one of the fastest growing markets for us. Its airport has emerged as the third busiest airport in India. We have tremendous growth in traffic from Bengaluru and this has prompted us to make it as our third hub in India after Mumbai and Delhi in the near future. Besides this, what we have witnessed is that the city is one of the fastest growing metro in the country and is increasingly gaining prominence as a global investment destination, resulting in a significant growth in aviation traffic both domestic and international, into and out of the city,” said Praveen Iyer, vice president, commercial (India sales), Jet Airways.

Interestingly the airline has also observed that there is an increase in traffic on its metro routes on late night flights which has become a norm amongst a lot of youngsters in the country. “We have seen that a lot of tech-savvy millennials are increasingly showing interest in booking our late night flights. This is a way different from the earlier conventional bookings of morning or evening flights. This late night segment is also growing for us and we are able to utilize our aircrafts fully through this segment,” said Iyer.

The airline is also hopeful that its operations will become normal from Chennai, which is grappling with the aftermath of cyclone Vardah, in the next five days. “We hope to have normal operations from Chennai in the next five days. Meanwhile, we will fully take care of all the requirements of any of the stranded passengers in Chennai who have booked on our flights,” said Iyer.
