Income tax is getting a day of its own, on July 24. This income tax day, the department is wooing tax payers like never before.
The event would have gone unknown to many, except for the fact that the income tax department sent out a mailer to everyone on its database, saying, "India has made great strides in every sphere of life and has achieved success at every front. Your immense contribution in the form of taxes has been phenomenal."
The two-sentence mailer said that they conveyed their heartfelt gratitude "for valuable support to the nation". It has been signed by S.S. Rathore, principal chief commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi.
A poster celebrating 157 years of the department's service to the nation accompanies the email, forming the centrepiece of the income tax department's website home page.
It urges people to join the movement for clean money, and be a proud tax payer.
Incidentally, the direct taxes collections upto June stand at Rs 1.42 lakh crores, representing a 14.8 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year.
