IT giant Cognizant Technology Solutions is likely to lay off as many as 6,000 employees, which is about 2.3 per cent of the firm's total workforce.
According to media reports, a Cognizant spokesperson had said the company conducts performance reviews regularly with the intention of ensuring that they have employees with the right set of skills to meet its business goals. A lot of changes, including "some employees transitioning out of the company," happens after this review, the spokesperson added.
Lay-offs at Cognizant is a regular, yearly affair. Usually, the bottom one per cent of the workforce is sacked for non-performance.
The company has also claimed that rise in automation has made many jobs redundant, forcing the firm to cut jobs. The firm had, in 2016, sacked two per cent of the employees.
