  • Of late, one of the leaders in the two-wheeler segment—Hero MotoCorp Ltd—has offered benefits up to Rs 12,500, including free insurance and cash discounts, on its range of scooters and motorcycles. Most of these discounts seem to be the BS-III effect

It was brisk sales at some of the two-wheeler showrooms in the IT city of Bengaluru. Some showrooms in the IT city claimed that they had received good response and had brisk sales due to huge discounts being offered by them—courtesy the BS-III ban. The Supreme Court had recently imposed a ban on the sale and the registration of Bharat Stage-III (BS-III) vehicles from April 1. Many dealers told THE WEEK that, since morning, they had sold a huge number of units. But they declined to give the exact numbers of units sold. Many of them have extended their working hours due to this sale. The financial year will close on March 31.

“We are giving discounts of up to Rs 10,000-15,000 on the new Honda Activa model and we have received a good response. If the vehicle is bought today, the registration can take place next week. As the billing date will remain today's, the customer need not worry,” said a dealer of City Honda outlet in Kalyan Nagar area of Bengaluru.

The Dhruvdesh Honda showroom dealer near Mekhri circle area of the IT city claimed that the response had been very good and they had good sales since morning, especially of the Honda Activa model.

Of late, one of the leaders in the two-wheeler segment—Hero MotoCorp Ltd—has offered benefits up to Rs 12,500, including free insurance and cash discounts, on its range of scooters and motorcycles. Most of these discounts seem to be the BS-III effect.

According to some dealers who did not wish to be identified, they may not be successful in selling all the stock at such a short notice and will return the unsold stock of BS-III two-wheelers back to the company. This, in turn, may be exported to the countries which have not issued such notifications around BS-III vehicles.

Earlier, media and related reports had said that the automobile industry was upset over the ban, which may cause losses for the industry.
