The Anil Ambani led Reliance group is all set to open an aeropspace research and innovation centre in Bengaluru. Known as the Dhirubhai Ambani Centre for Innovation and research in Aerospace, it will generate more than 1500 highly skilled jobs. This was announced by the ADAG chairman Anil Ambani during 'Invest Karnataka 2016' which kicked off in Bengaluru on Thursday. “We are proposing to set up a global centre of aerospace excellence at Whitefield in Bengaluru. It will be one of the first-ever of its kind in the private sector in India and will be a world class facility for research, development and innovation in aerospace technology,” said Ambani during the inauguration of the event.

The proposed centre, will be set up by the Reliance Group under the auspices of Reliance Defence. Ambani remarked that the venture will support the government's plan to accord the highest priority for indigenous design, development and manufacturing for Defence equipment.

He pointed out that the aerospace industry has always taken the lead in the rapidly changing technology and there are talks of about fifth generation fighter aircraft, sixth generation technologies which are already finding applications. “For India to emerge as a strong military power, it is important that we cut down our dependencies for military hardware. It is even more important that we start developing and designing the cutting edge systems. Given the emerging scenarios, where Air Power will play a decisive role in any conflict situation, aerospace technologies were the obvious choice for us,” remarked Ambani.

The Reliance Group chairman said that the city of Bengaluru for him is a silicon valley of hope and ambition where hundreds of young entrepreneurial Indians arrive every day to chase their digital dreams and to push the limits of what technology can do and achieve. “We have a substantial business footprint across the state of Karnataka and have invested nearly Rs 5,000 crores in the state across a wide array of sectors, from telecom to energy to entertainment to financial services and now defence, and created nearly 5,000 jobs,” he said.
