  • The ICC decision came after Pakistan had asked the world governing body to shift the match either to Kolkata or Mohali as it was not satisfied with the security arrangement at Dharamsala.

The International Cricket Council on Wednesday shifted the venue for the March 19 India-Pakistan World Twenty20 group match from Dharamsala to Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, reports said.

The ICC decision came after Pakistan had asked the world governing body to shift the match either to Kolkata or Mohali as it was not satisfied with the security arrangement at Dharamsala. The Pakistan Cricket Board had sent a delegation of officials to check security at the venues in neighbouring India earlier this week.

ICC CEO Dave Richardson and tournament director M.V. Sridhar announced the decision in a joint media conference.

Earlier this month, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh told local media there were concerns over whether the government could provide adequate security for the Pakistan team in Dharamsala after a section of ex-servicemen and families of martyred soldiers opposed the hosting of the match and threatened to stage protests at the stadium.

The World T20 tournament opened on Tuesday. The main draw will begin on March 15. The final will be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 3.
