BCCI keen on Dravid coaching team India: Reports (File) The advisory committee will meet on Tuesday to further discuss the issue of appointing the coach

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is reportedly keen to appoint Rahul Dravid, who has been in charge of India A and India U-19 squads for almost a year, as coach of the Indian cricket team.

The term of former cricketer Ravi Shastri as the director of team India ended with the World T20 in which India was ousted in the semis after losing to West Indies.

According to media reports, the BCCI's advisory committee members Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman approached their teammate to ask if the batting legend is interested in assuming charge as the coach of team India.

Dravid, whose stint with team Indin includes 164 Test matches and 344 ODIs, has proved that he means business when it comes to coaching by guiding the Indian U-19 cricket team to the final of of the World Cup this year. The team had lost to the West Indies.

"Rahul has said he will give it a thought," one of the sources who was in the know of this development was quoted as saying.

If reports are to be believed, Dravid will be given a free hand and an extended contract until 2019 World Cup if he agrees to mentor team India.

The advisory committee will meet on Tuesday to further discuss the issue of appointing the coach.

However, neither Dravid nor the members of the advisory committee were available for comment.
