The family and friends of marketing executive Sidharth Sharma, who was killed on Monday night by a speeding Mercedes, have been running campaigns on social media seeking justice (#JusticeForSiddharth). They have also released a shocking CCTV footage of the accident.

The 32-year-old succumbed to injures after being hit by the car, while trying to cross the road in the posh Civil Lines area of north Delhi. According to eyewitness on the spot, the victim was flung several meters in the air and landed at least 15 meters away. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

According to reports, the car owner Manoj Agarawal's teenage son was driving the car and he is also suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The accused and his associates fled the accident scene, leaving the car behind as a tyre of the car burst and the vehicle stopped after a sharp drift on the road.

The accused was arrested and later let off on the bail.

The Delhi-based businessman, Agarawal, told police that it was his driver who had last taken out the vehicle, following which the driver was questioned for hours, the official said.

CCTV footage obtained from the area were checked thoroughly and eye-witness accounts were matched with the details.

The official said on further investigation, it turned out that the car was being driven by the businessman's 17-year-old son.

The businessman's driver turned out to be one of the occupants in the car and it is suspected that he was being pressurised to not disclose the juvenile's name. This is a matter of investigation, the official said.

Sharma had earlier worked in a project with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. He was a resident of Yamuna Road in north Delhi. His body has been sent for postmortem examination.

The father of the juvenile suspect will be prosecuted under the MV Act. The father's driver will also be booked for allegedly misguiding the police by falsely calming that he was behind the wheels when the accident took place.

The family and friends of Sidharth have accused the suspect's family of using money to influence the investigation and drop the charges.
