Swati's loyalty rewarded and other news from UP

The BJP has appointed Swati Singh, wife of controversial ex-BJP leader Dayashanker Singh, as the head of BJP's women's wing of the state. The party had expelled Dayashanker Singh for his derogatory remarks against BSP chief Mayawati. Swati had been quite vocal during the entire controversy and had stood by her husband's and the BJP's side. By rewarding her, the party has tried to tap Thakur votes. Meanwhile, she has announced that she is ready to contest assembly polls from anywhere in the state against Mayawati if BJP would field her against Mayawati.

Political Dusshera

As the state assembly polls approach, political heavyweights, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  have decided to utilise opportunities for political gain. The PM will watch ‘Ramleela’ in Lucknow this time. Modi will come to Lucknow on Dusshera day and watch Aishbahg’s historical ‘Ramleela’ and will stay in Lucknow for an hour  from 6pm to 7pm. On this occasion, the PM may grant some sops to UP or Lucknow. Modi may address a public rally from the Ramleela ground on that day.

New home for Akhilesh

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has moved to his new house in Lucknow situated on 4 Vikramaditya Marg adjacent to SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s house. This new house has been allotted to him as there is a norm that every ex-chief minister gets a separate house to stay in when he is out of  office. Till now, Akhilesh Yadav had been staying in his father house. Rumours say that the recent tug of war between father and son prompted Akhilesh to take this step. It may be recalled that during the recent feud in Yadav family, Mulayam Singh had cancelled many decisions taken by his son and had instead supported his brother Shivpal Yadav.

Five of a family commit suicide

Five people of a family committed suicide in Raghukul Vihar of Meerut. While head of the family Mohan Arora consumed poison, rest of his family members slit their hands and hanged themselves. In the suicide note, the deceased has not held anyone responsible for the incident and but has sited debts as the reason for taking this extreme step.  Besides, 75-year-old Mohan Arora, his 70-year-old wife Krishna, son Vineet Arora, 42, daughter-in-law Pooja, 38, and grandson, Abhishek, 16, were also found dead. Meerut police has confirmed that prima facie, the incident appears to be a case of suicide.

On a yatra binge

The Congress, ahead the UP assembly polls, have developed a penchant for yatras. After finishing his ‘Kisan Yatra’ from Deoria to Delhi, the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi plans to undertake another one which will commence from October 13. This yatra has been named ‘Sandesh Yatra’ and will cover all the districts of the state. The party has decided to undertake this yatra to maintain the continuity of the Kisan Yatra. The Congress vice president will rake up farmers’ issue in this yatra too.
