The BJP has appointed Swati Singh, wife of controversial ex-BJP leader Dayashanker Singh, as the head of BJP's women's wing of the state. The party had expelled Dayashanker Singh for his derogatory remarks against BSP chief Mayawati. Swati had been quite vocal during the entire controversy and had stood by her husband's and the BJP's side. By rewarding her, the party has tried to tap Thakur votes. Meanwhile, she has announced that she is ready to contest assembly polls from anywhere in the state against Mayawati if BJP would field her against Mayawati.
As the state assembly polls approach, political heavyweights, like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have decided to utilise opportunities for political gain. On this occasion, the PM may grant some sops to UP or Lucknow. Modi may address a public rally from the Ramleela ground on that day.
New home for Akhilesh
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has moved to his new house in Lucknow situated on 4 Vikramaditya Marg adjacent to SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s house. This new house has been allotted to him as there is a norm that every ex-chief minister gets a separate house to stay in when he is out of office. Till now, Akhilesh Yadav had been staying in his father house. Rumours say that the recent tug of war between father and son prompted Akhilesh to take this step. It may be recalled that during the recent feud in Yadav family, Mulayam Singh had cancelled many decisions taken by his son and had instead supported his brother Shivpal Yadav.
