The class 12 chemistry re-examination of the Karnataka Pre-University Board was cancelled on Thursday after the officials detected a fresh question paper leak.

The II Pre-University Chemistry exam, which is equivalent to Class 12 in central shcools, was originally held on March 11. However, the state education department cancelled it and set the date for re-examination on March 31 after a question paper leak came to light.

On Thursday, however, the officials of Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) informed the students not to go to examination centres as the exam has been postponed without further date due to a question paper leak.

According to reports, the PU board director was informed by the CID about the leak in wee hours of Thursday.

The leaks were detected in two places in the state and reportedly three handwritten question papers were in the circulation and one of them had all the 36 questions of the original examination paper, reported The Hindu, quoting a source at PU Board.

The CID officials who strongly suspect that the leak of papers was happening from the treasuries questioned several staff, the report said.

The investigation was handed over to the CID following protests from parents and students after the March 21 examination was cancelled and postponed due to a question paper leak.

The failure of education department and enforcement agencies to protect the interest of students has triggered an intense protest outside the DPUE in Bengaluru. The new development has affected 1.4 lakh students across the state, especially students who are taking common entrance test as their regular exams are yet to complete.

The protest intensified after student organisations and political parties joined the agitation.
