The Centre has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe two cases related to the disappearances of youths from Kasargod and Palakkad districts in Kerala. The missing youths are believed to have joined the ISIS.
The Kerala government had forwarded reports to the Union government on these two cases and stated that these were fit to be investigated by the NIA.
The disappearance of the youths, some with families and many of them medicos and engineering graduates, came to the knowledge of authorities after their relatives brought the matter to their notice. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had termed the matter “very serious” and had ordered an immediate probe.
The NIA, which has been probing cases related to ISIS in the country, will investigate how these youths managed to join the global jihadi outfit. It will also trace the journey of these youths since their disappearance and the factors that led to their indoctrination and the ISIS operatives they were in touch with. The investigation will include inter-state probe to establish similarities with other such cases.
