After attacks in major international tourist hubs in Berlin and Ankara, the government has issued an alert against possible terror acts on new year and Republic Day. The alert issued by the central intelligence agencies is based on terror inputs warning against PoK-based terrorist outfit United Jehad Council and Lashkar mastermind Hafiz Saeed plotting terror act and attempts to sabotage the Republic Day celebrations in the valley and the hinterland.
The alert, issued by the central intelligence agencies, has warned that Pakistan-based terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen as well as northeast insurgent outfits may carry out terror on new year and in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations in the country.
It has specifically warned against attempts being made by the UNC headed by Syed Sallahuddin and Lashkar patron and JuD chief Hafiz Saeed planning terrorist acts in the country to disturb peace.
The alert says that security forces, police stations, police posts, and airports could become victims of violent terror attacks using IEDs.
The agencies have also warned that the terrorists could be dressed in military fatigue to carry out attacks. Places of high public footfall like railway stations, malls, market places, bus stops and vital installations are vulnerable and security needs to be beefed up to prevent any untoward incident, the alert has said.
The central agencies have cited the acts of terror in Berlin in Germany and Ankara in Turkey to warn that Indian agencies need to remain alert for the next one month to prevent any possible violence and terror in the coming days.
