A 21-year-old girl from Tamil Nadu committed suicide after morphed images of her were uploaded on Facebook.
According to media reports, the victim, identified as Vinupriya (21), daughter of a weaver in Salem, was upset after morphed nude images were uploaded on a fake Facebook account on her name.
After she brought the issue to the notice of her parents, her father Annadurai filed a complaint with District Superintendent of Police who forwarded the same to the local police station.
However, the police failed to nab the culprit and another such image was uploaded on the fake social media account. Distraught, she ended her life by hanging when her parents were away on Sunday. Although she was rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced brought dead.
In her suicide note, the girl said she took the extreme step as she was unable to bear the humiliation and social stigma that she was undergoing.
Protesting the police inaction, the parents of the girl refused to receive the body after autopsy. The attempts of the cops to pacify the parents failed and they refused to receive the body on the second day on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the father of the girl said the cyber crime police made him purchase a new mobile phone saying it was for speeding up the probe.
